Microsoft introduces Surface Laptop Go 2: faster processor and that’s it eMMC

Prices above average, but products of excellent quality: the Surface range is a safe haven for those looking for something in the Windows environment capable of guaranteeing at the same time performance, longevity and design. Surface Laptop Go is one of the luckiest products, also because it is one of those that cost less: we are in front of the notebook version of that Surface Go which today is the Microsoft product of excellence in education.

Surface Go 2, announced today, is its evolution, an evolution that as per traditional Microsoft does not change the product at all, it is limited to a few tweaks. Same body, same 12.4 ”3: 2 touch Pixel Sense screen, same connectivity solutions with a USB Type A, a Type C and the ever-present Surface Connector to connect the 39-watt Microsoft charger. Charging via Type C is always available, also because a similar product can be charged without any problem with a mobile phone charger.

The changes concern the processor, where a Core i5 1135G7 is adopted instead of the 10th generation Core i5 1035G1, hence Tiger Lake. It may seem like a minimal difference but it is not, because if we look beyond the 4 cores we notice that the frequency of the single core increases significantly but above all we go from an Intel UHD graphics solution to the Iris Xe, decidedly more advanced especially in the encoders / decoders present. The presence of a hardware compression module saves battery during videoconferencing sessions, an area where the Laptop Go 2 will probably be very busy. Microsoft also talks about an improved front camera, but according to the data sheet we are always in front of the same 720p F2.

There is another important change: the 64 GB eMMC version disappears. Surface Laptop Go 2 will be configurable with 4/8 GB of LPDDR4x and will have 128 or 256 GB removable SSD disks. The part linked to sustainability is interesting: from the cover to the keyboard, passing through the feet and the internal cables, all the original spare parts will also be available for users who wish to repair their Surface in the future and can be purchased at a Microsoft service center.

In Italy it starts from 679 euros for the 128 GB version with 4 GB of RAM, which become 779 with 8 GB of RAM and 879 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Availability from the end of July.
