It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament and over the next 20 days I will be sharing with you 20 of my greatest highlights.
#3 Opening Queens hospital
It may sound slightly bonkers to include Queen’s hospital in the list of my proudest achievements. However, in 1994 the Government were determined to close down Oldchurch Hospital in Romford. This meant that many sick residents would have to travel across London to get treatment. Working with other local MPs I persuaded the Government to build a brand new flagship hospital in its place. I am still pleased that patients don’t have to travel for hours to get urgent medical treatment.
