Many residents will know that I am the proud Patron of Barking Foodbank. Over the years I have spent a lot of time working with and supporting the Foodbank. I was delighted to attend the opening of the New Hope Family Centre. This is new home of the expanded Foodbank. The new Centre has a kitchen complete with a washing machine and a new clothes bank for residents who have fallen on hard times.
The demand for the Foodbank is growing daily. With benefit cuts and rising bills, residents are struggling to put food on the table.
I am really sad that we need a facility like this in the Borough. But I am proud that we have such great people in the community like Pastor Obi and the Foodbank volunteers who are determined the make a difference and improve the lives of other people
To mark the opening of this new Centre I have donated £500, the proceeds of a recent speech I gave. This £500 will buy a new steamer for the clothes bank.
