#20 Beating the BNP

Saturday, June 28th, 2014

It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament here are just 20 of my greatest achievements.

Beating the BNP

In 2010, we sent a resounding message to the BNP that their politics of hatred and division have no place in Barking and Dagenham or in British democracy. The level of migration into the Borough has brought with it many challenges. But our community has chosen to face those challenges together, in a spirit of fairness and decency.

It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament here are just 20 of my greatest achievements.

Renwick Road Bridge

The increase of traffic on the A13 had been affecting businesses at Dagenham Dock and Creekmouth Industrial Estate for years. After 10 years of campaigning  Network Rail finally agreed to carry out substantial repairs to the bridge to allow two-way traffic. This has been vital to improving journeys to and from the Thames View estate.

It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament here are just 20 of my greatest achievements.

Medals for Veterans

I wanted to honour the efforts of our armed forces in the Borough. I applied for Veterans’ medals for residents who had been members of the armed forces and organised a ceremony to mark their outstanding contribution to our country.

#17 Increasing opening hours for Barking police station

Wednesday, June 25th, 2014

It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament here are just 20 of my greatest achievements.

Increasing opening hours for Barking police station

I was furious when the police unveiled shorter opening hours for the new Barking Police Station. Over 8000 of you signed my petition to keep the station open for longer when it moves to Barking Learning Centre. Thanks to our efforts, the Deputy Mayor for Policing backed down and the station will now open until midnight on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

#16 Dedicated Safer Neighbourhood teams for each ward

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

It has been a tremendous honour and privilege to have served the Borough for 20 years today. Coming up to this anniversary I have been reflecting on my time as your Member of Parliament here are just 20 of my greatest achievements.

Dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Teams

I have campaigned for better community policing and since 2006 every ward in the Borough has had their own Safer Neighbourhood Team dedicated to tackling anti-social behaviour. Recently I successfully fought to keep the Goresbrook Safer Neighbourhood team.
